We really enjoyed last year’s event, so we’ll be at PAX Unplugged pitching games to publishers, hanging out with our colleagues and friends, and having a great time generally! There is a rumor that After the Empire may even make a special showing, but we’ll let you know if that materializes.
If you want to playtest any of our games in development, please shoot us an email!
If you like hexes, maps, fantasy, combat, and TONS of bits, this may be up your alley:
If you like cooperative post-apocalyptic dice rollers where the goal is to maintain your humanity, this might be the game for you:
If you like wielding elemental mountain powers like lava, avalanche, mud flow, rockslide, and flood in a competition to wreak the most vengeful havoc on the polluting city below, then this may be the one for you:
We may bring one or two more, but let us know if you want see any of the above!
We hope to see some of you folks there and play some games!
We'll be in town pitching several games to publishers, play-testing, and having fun! We don't have a booth or any specific area reserved, so if you want to catch a game of After the Empire or any of the other games we've been cooking up since, just send us an email! We'd love to get your input and see what you think!
We're currently slated for the end of 1st quarter, 2019 for After the Empire, being published by Gray Fox Games. There's still time for a little play-testing before its release, so come play a game that currently looks something like this:
And, if you don't mind prototype games that are a little more in-development, try this:
Or this:
Or maybe even this:
We'll be at Gamestorm in a couple weeks! We had such a blast last year that we had to come back. We don't even have to leave town for this one! We do have a playtest scheduled for one of our newer games, Mountain God's Revenge, at 3pm on Saturday, April 7th. Click here for the link to sign up for the event. Of course, we'll be bringing After the Empire with us as well. If you want to make sure you get a play in with us of either game (or want to help us work on some other new ones), just shoot us a message and we can probably make that happen!
We'll be at PAX Unplugged in just a couple short weeks! We don't have a booth, but we'll be showing a few new games in progress guerrilla style. If you want to check out any of our new games, just shoot us an email and let us know and we'll do our best to get together with you.
Check out some of the new prototypes shown in our news feed: click me
Of course, we'll be bringing After the Empire, too! So, if you're excited to get in a sneak peak last stages of development prototype play in before the launch in Q1 or Q2 of 2018, that's fair game, too!
Here's the website to check out all the other cool stuff going on at PAX: click me
See you there!

Below is a list of participating designers and their featured games:
“Game-On” by Damien Lopez - Card game // Augmented Reality // 2 - 4 players // 10+ depending on variant played - A fun and original amalgamation of traditional card gaming and augmented reality gaming. Enjoy one or all of the variants available to play; with or without the use of any smart device.
https://gameongame.co/
“Emprise” - Dickie Adams - Dungeon Crawl / Fast - paced / Real - time / card game // 2 - 4 players // Work with your allies as you race through a dungeon in search of treasure and glory, but beware, only one adventurer can be the greatest .
“Haikosha” - Bryan Koch
2-3 // 12+ // 30 minutes // abstract
Haikosha challenges players to move their pieces from one side of the board to the other, towards a triangle of scoring spaces. The furthest spaces earn more points, but a couple pieces earn double points, while one piece earns triple points. Pieces do not have an inherent move that they are allowed, but each have a move that they themselves allow; one piece can move any other exactly one space, one moves them exactly two, and the valuable Mooch piece doesn't move any pieces anywhere, though it does score triple points. Players are not restricted to moving their own pieces, so long as the power of their piece is used to move another player's piece.
“After the Empire” by Evan Halbert & Ryan Mauk: 1-4 players // age 13+ // 150 minutes // worker placement / resource management / Ameritrash / Combat // Set in 1282, European lords and ladies fight for territory to improve their cities, lands, and defenses in preparation for an invasion from an invading army. http://portlandgamecraft.com/after-the-empire/
“Potent Potions” - Sam Williams
3-5 players // 12+ // 30 min per player // euro style deduction based
“Potent Potions” pits 3-5 players in a head to head race to be the first to discover the elusive recipe to the Elixir of Life. It melds some of your favourite mechanics from a classic euro game with all the great parts of a deduction game like Clue.
“Huck Them Dice” - Chase Van Epps & Eli Sausville
2 - 4 // 12+ // 30 - 60min // War dice game w/ Drafting // In "Huck Them Dice" players strategically draft locations on the field of battle. Players or teams will compete over 2 resources: Energy and Factories. Conflict is resolved by Hucking dice and upgrading your robots to programmers to help your dice rolls. Resources are tight and battles are tense. Which faction will come out victorious? Only your skill and luck will decide!
“H.E.A.D. Hunters” - James Campbell
2-4 // 10+ // 30 mins // Skirmish // H.E.A.D. Hunters is a new kind of tabletop game that combines a miniatures game with a collectible toy.
https://youtu.be/IFbnpZsTkwU
"Eridu" - Mohammad Ali
2-4 // 12+ // 6- minutes // Eurogame
In Eridu players take the role of caravanner in ancient Mesopotamia trying to improve their reputation by selling goods, erecting temples, bribing local magistrates, and hiring raiders. The base mechanic uses an action-taking rondel and requires a bit of planning to execute.
"Hidden Dragons" - Shawn Watson
2-4 Players//13+//30-60 minutes//Strategy// 2 Players go head-to-head with their elemental dragon armies to wield control over the Spirit Spheres, to control their enemy's home pagodas or to destroy their opponent entirely. But movement and attack can come from any direction as the board itself is played in 3 dimensions.
“Summiteers” - Chris Green + Andy Santos-Johnson // 2-5 players // Ages 8+ // 15-25 minutes // Style: Racing
In Summiteers, players race to be the first climber to reach the top of the mountain. Climbers take turns playing cards to ascend towards victory. However, the climb won't be that easy, as other players and even the mountain itself may have other plans.
“Leaf” - Tim Eisner
2-4//8+//20-30 min//abstract, tile placement//In “Leaf” players take turns adding leaf shapes to the forest floor. Each leaf has specific scoring requirements. Players attempt to connect their leaves to as many other leaves as possible to gain maximum scoring tokens points. When a leaf’s condition is met the scoring tokens are added to the root system, unlocking special powers and determining which player aided the tree the most.
We are excited to be involved with Protospiel PDX @Red Castle Games (6406 SE Foster Rd, Portland, OR 97206). We will be joining 7 other Portland area game designers as we playtest our original, unpublished projects. See the game details below! Come on down, have some fun, share your feedback, and speak with the designers. Plus, you can bring your own game to playtest if time & space allow. Please visit the event page linked above to RSVP, as this helps show people that they should come, too! Also, invite your friends and leave a comment!

Do you love locally designed games, being one of the first people to play up and comers, and/or need other designers to play and give feedback on YOUR locally designed up and coming game? Well, we go to the Portland Game Store all the time to playtest games and hang out.
